POSITIVE BEHAVIORAL SUPPORT

  Vernon Center Middle School is a Positive Behavioral Support school.  PBS is designed to help school teams form behavioral and discipline systems that support student learning and social development.  Nationally, PBS is currently practiced in over 8,000 schools.  PBS is not an initiative, but a set of problem solving strategies and processes.  Building upon existing strengths, school teams create well defined systems, use effective practices along with data centered evaluation methods to reshape their communities and help students achieve academic and social competence.  Introducing, modeling, and reinforcing positive social behavior is an important part of a student’s educational experience.  VCMS believes that teaching behavioral expectations through Core Values and rewarding students for following them is a much more positive and successful approach.

The faculty, staff, and administration of the Vernon Center Middle School are committed to providing an atmosphere and program that offer students sound academic, social, artistic, and emotional growth and transition from elementary school to high school. We are devoted to helping every student achieve his/her maximum individual potential, recognizing that this goal requires the collective best efforts of the staff, the student, the parents, and the community at large. We encourage students to cultivate a respect for themselves and others and to make positive personal choices and decisions.
